Ingrown Toenails – Assessment & Treatment Options
LILY FISHER CH036796
JORDAN HOLMES CH037028
An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin, often causing pain, redness, swelling, and sometimes infection. Early assessment and treatment can prevent the condition from worsening and reduce discomfort.
Initial Consultation
Before any treatment is carried out, all patients are required to attend an initial consultation (New Patient Chiropody Appointment – £65).
During this appointment, the podiatrist will:
- Assess the condition of your nail and surrounding skin
- Determine the severity of the ingrown nail
- Discuss the most appropriate treatment options with you
In some cases, it may be possible to treat the problem during this appointment by carefully removing the offending portion of the nail without local anaesthetic, provided this can be done comfortably and without causing significant pain.
Further Assessment for Nail Surgery
If immediate treatment is not suitable, we will carry out a more detailed assessment to determine your suitability for nail surgery. This includes:
- Reviewing your medical history
- Completing an assessment form
- Discussing any relevant health considerations
Nail Surgery Options
There are two main surgical procedures available:
- Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA): Removal of only the affected section of the nail
- Total Nail Avulsion (TNA): Removal of the entire nail
Your podiatrist will guide you through these options, explaining:
- Which procedure is most appropriate for your condition
- Expected healing times
- Aftercare requirements and self-care advice
Pricing
- Nail Surgery Procedure: £375
- This is in addition to the initial consultation fee
- Includes all follow-up appointments
- Includes a comprehensive aftercare pack with dressings
- Both Toes (if required): £675 (discounted rate)
NHS Referral Option
In the interest of transparency, we are also able to refer patients to the NHS for ingrown toenail surgery following the initial consultation, should you prefer this route.
