What is an in-store shoe fitting?
An in-store shoe fitting looks at how you move Whether you’re a regular runner, enjoy long walks or simply want more comfortable everyday footwear. By examining your foot movement, stride and overall biomechanics, we can identify patterns that may affect your comfort, performance or risk of injury, helping you understand your unique movement pattern and make better choices for your feet.
We offer a personalised service combining expert footwear advice with a wide range of running and walking shoes, providing a valuable tool to help you find the right footwear for your particular needs.
Understanding your foot position
There are three primary foot positions, which our shoe fitters can discern from a variety of different tests.
Neutral: Your foot rolls inwards slightly, acting as a shock absorption mechanism, helping distribute impact relatively evenly.
Overpronation: Your foot rolls excessively inwards at the ankle, causing an unbalanced load distribution both at the ground and further up the chain.
Supination: Your foot doesn’t roll inwards sufficiently, reducing the shock absorption which should occur.
Identifying your pronation pattern can offer useful guidance when choosing footwear helping to avoid unnecessary fatigue and increased risk of injury.
Identifying Your Foot Arch Type
Your foot arch also plays a role in how your body absorbs impact and distributes weight. There are three main arch types:
Neutral arches: A medium-height arch which provides a balance of flexibility and support.
Low arches: A low arch or flat that sits close to the ground and may flatten further under pressure.
High arches: A raised arch which tend to be rigid, placing additional pressure on certain areas of the foot.
Awareness of your arch type can help you understand your foot structure and explore footwear that feels comfortable and supportive.
